The Do's of Writing a Resume

✅ I have provided up-to-date contact information in my personal information section.

✅ I have an appropriate voicemail message that I am regularly checking. Also, I am checking my email account often, including my spam folder. 

✅ I have included some information on my education and past training.

✅ I have accurately described my past achievements.

✅ I have ensured that my Resume Summary or Profile highlights how I meet the essential qualifications of the position I am applying.

✅ I or someone I know has reviewed the content for grammatical or spelling errors. I have ensured that I am using the proper language setting on my word processer program (e.g., American English versus British English).

✅ I have included a cover letter with my resume.

✅ I have printed a hardcopy of my resume and scanned it to ensure the information is presented consistently.  

The Don'ts of Writing a Resume

❎ I have not included a photograph of myself unless I apply for a job in acting or modeling.

❎ I have not included other personal information, such as:

- age

- date of birth

- weight, height or another health status, such as being pregnant

- insurance number

- gender

- religion or race

- country of origin

- immigration status

❎ I have not included high school information unless I am currently attending secondary school.

❎ I have not included the addresses of my former employers.

❎ I have not included hobbies, courses or activities that have nothing to do with the job I am applying.

❎ I have not included salary expectations.

❎ I have not indicated a reason for changing jobs or for leaving a previous employer.

❎ I have not included the names of references. This can go in a separate document and can be sent when request.

❎ I have not included information on my children.

❎ I have not dated or signed my resume.
